Survey for those with higher mileage (2000+) ebikes

Trek Powerfly 5 hardtail. About 1700 miles on it. Walk Mode didn't work, dealer did something (firmware upgrade?) and now it does work. Spoke broke at the rear hub. A different shop fixed that. Chain broke last week. Checked the broken chain; it was .5% stretched. My wife's Powerfly 5 chain...

Check the security Torx bolts on your downtube! 2018 models.

I didn't explain my comment about grease very well. If I do apply some grease, it will be to fill the Torx head itself to prevent corrosion and to keep dirt out of the Torx head. If I fill the top of the Torx bolt with grease, I'll cover the head of the bolt with a piece of duct tape to keep...

Check the security Torx bolts on your downtube! 2018 models.

tegnamo, where did you get the 6 Nm? I asked the bike shop mechanic for a torque and he said he didn't know. As you mention, the nuts inside the frame pocket are nylock. I failed to mention that in the OP. I don't know about other Treks that used this design, such as the Super Commuter, but...

Now all I need is some bailing wire... ;)

Check the security Torx bolts on your downtube! 2018 models.

I'm torn between adding to the "Known Issues" or starting a new thread. The "Known Issues" thread is kinda cluttered with replies etc. This is only going to apply to a year or two of Trek models. I have a 2018 Powerfly 5. The battery drops into a large pocket in the frame, where it's secured...

TREK Powerfly 5 mounting points on underside of seat stays?

Thanks, Ravi - 50 years ago my bike was always with me and I knew every part. Then for years bikes were not a big part of my life. Nowadays my new bike is a mystery.

TREK Powerfly 5 mounting points on underside of seat stays?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount a Topeak rack to a TREK Powerfly 5. On the seat stays there are a pair of threaded mount points. They're welded into the seat stays a few inches below and behind the seat. If these mount points faced outward it would make sense for a rack. But...

Need help dialing in handlebars. Pain and numbness in hands.

I cut a coupla inches off my bars and they're still almost as wide as yours. 26+" on two different bikes. I've cut the handlebars shorter on all of our e-bikes. I used a tubing cutter to get a nice clean cut. Takes longer than a hacksaw, but nice results. A few swipes with a couple of files...

Shimano SPD pedals & cleats questions??

OK, I've only got a few SPD pedals and I'm already confused. First off, what terminology is used to describe the little metal piece that connects to the shoe? Is that the cleat? I think that's the right word. I've got three different cleats in front of me. H20, SM-SH51, & SM-SH56. I'm not...

    Seat post too long

if you've gotta run the seat right down to the frame it's pretty much a certainty that the bike is too big for you.

Charging e-bikes while car-camping away from 110V grid?

Wow, I didn't know that some pickups come with inverters, much less ones powerful enough for two e-bike chargers. Is the inverter true sine-wave? Maybe most of them are nowadays. 6z, where did you get your spare batteries? Did you go back to the bike shop where you purchased the bikes and...

Charging e-bikes while car-camping away from 110V grid?

Good morning to everyone - I've been wondering how people charge their e-bikes when RV'ing. I'm guessing the answer is pretty straightforward if you're slumming in a $400,000 RV with a bank of deep-cycle batteries and a big inverter. What I'd really like to hear about is the home-grown...

Stealthy Class 1 for gravel/dirt rail trails and more

I'd suggest making some inquiries about the actual legal status of the trails in question. Contact the agencies in charge. Make sure to let them know right up front that you have Class 1 bikes, NOT Class 2 or 3. If they say you're good to go, super. This fall we talked with a guy who's...

Stealthy Class 1 for gravel/dirt rail trails and more

The Dual Sports look like a good choice. We bought two e-bikes and started riding a local rails-to-trails. Got several flats in a short period of time. I upgraded tires and tubes. Conti Protection on my bike, Serfas FPS on my wife's. Also got heavier Conti tubes. No flats since.

Where to look for replacement batteries?

Hi, JayVee - Glad to hear you're still rolling at 600 cycles. I just picked 500 cause I read that somewhere on the forum. I assure you, we're not gonna buy new ones until we've gotten our money's worth out of the old ones.
