After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

I have it on mine ride and do give this option a thumbs up.

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

Understood, and acknowledge that this is an issue with ebikes in general. What I do when transporting it (I have a tunnel on one of my routes so have to take a shuttle) is remove the battery and my rear bag, doing so takes the weight down to a more manageable level to get it up on the shuttle...

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

Weight is not something I would be concerned about and I haven't weighed mine. More important is the where the weight is. With the mid motor I've noted that the bike is much better balanced than having a hub motor which resulted in a less weight in the front end. While I did not think it...

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

Yes. Well let me be clear, 28 mph =45 km/h. The limits on the STep based bikes for assist is 32 km/hr (20 mph) . There are hacks for all bikes including the STep but I really wouldn't recommend it. I've been "car doored" at 25 km/hr and that causes enough damage to both me and the bike, at...

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

The D-500 Bionx/Ohm. They still service this sell and service the motor and hope to bring it back. It certainly took me "around the world".

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

I'm getting much better (less) wear than I expected on chain and brake pads. I thought, based on monitoring other long distance mid motor riders that I would have more wear than I'm getting. I'm still on the same set of pads, still some meat left (not metal pads) and only one chain so far after...

Etube user report on Adroid tablet

If you are looking for the pdf user report (details of the shimano devices, settings etc.) after you have requested the Unit Log Acquisition on the above app, it is buried way down in the file system. Look in: My files, internal storage: then folders: Android data...

Question about walk assist on Shimano Steps

No the walk mode assist can not be used like you are proposing Dewey. It is only designed to be used with the rider off the bike. I do find it very useful when the tide is out and I have to walk the bike up a very steep ramp. So for me it's great.

"Around the World" in 3 years

Around 30,000 kms, say 18,000 miles before I traded up to a new model. I was getting about 3-5,000 kms out of the chains and jockey wheels and double that with the cassettes depending on the time of the year. Winter is harder on consumables (including brake pads) as the road grit and road salt...

"Around the World" in 3 years

The batteries (nominal 48 Volt for the D500 Ohm/Bionx setup) are rated in cycles which can be viewed in the Bionx interface. When you get to ~ 500 cycles you're getting up to the end of life of the battery. Average kms per cycle is about 80 or 50 miles, so the 40,000 kms pretty well did one...

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

After 3 weeks and more than 1,000 kms on the new Ohm mid motor based ebike, I'm blown away with the efficiency improvement with the Shimano STEPs system in the range of 25-30% over the Bionx D-500 based hub motor At an average of over 22 kms/hour on my hilly commute I'm getting over 125 km...

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

I've got the Quest and just upgrading to the 6000 display (with bluetooth). The 8000 display (also with bluetooth for the Shimano apps) I had to test out is likely great for trails/mountain biking, but the 6000 has more data at a glance for the riding I do. Really like no special wiring or...

After more than 60K kms on the best hub motor in the industry, I'm a mid motor convert!

As the subject states, I'm now a convert. I never thought I would say this after almost 4 years of riding the best hub motor in the industry. I'm just approaching 3 weeks and 1,000 kms on Ohm's new mid motor model based on Shimano STePS and I'm more than impressed. I had tried mid motors...

OHM Updates & HQ Visit, Supporting BionX Models Ongoing!

Awesome, thank you Court for the update, and a high five to all the team at Ohm! I've been riding my Ohm for going on 5 years now typically averaging around 15,000 kms a year and can attest to the bike's performance, and Ohm's commitment and support, -it's simply, over the top. Even over...

    Bike mirror recommendation

I just picked up one of the Busch & Müller 701 Mirrors, replacing 1 year old "mirrcyle" mirror which was flopping around like a dead fish or if tightened too tight to adjust. It looks and functions very well, wider view, easy to adjust, and it folds forward or backwards so when I navigate...

    Clearance - Safety Flag

I'm trying to be proactive and avoid getting wacked again by a truck mirror or worse and this looks like a potential solution, but have not seen any reviews or comments on practicality of these. Has anyone experience with clearance-safety flags (other than the vertical ones on recumbent bikes...

    Bionx enter receivership

Still getting great support with my Ohm. Hope that the technology survives, as this motor IMHO is the best I have ridden. The support the larger format motor has avoids the issues with spoke stress that smaller diameter motors have.

2017 URBAN another home run for OHM Electric Bikes!

Not sure Ian, you'd have to try and see if they fit. I've not see any commuter style bike with any air deflector and not sure if the geometry of the bike will fit this but worth a try for this length of ride....

2017 URBAN another home run for OHM Electric Bikes!

That was combined on the old and new (over a period of 3 years). My commute is ~ 40+ km a day and weekends I'd put on another 120+ with a volunteer activity, shopping and pleasure, so was averaging just over 330+ a week so it didn't really take much to get there, and all in all enjoyed every...

2017 URBAN another home run for OHM Electric Bikes!

Only addition was the bag on the back and a pump, nothing else needed. Here's the new bike with my 40,000 km "certificate" from last year. Still going strong.
