Are batteries/chargers interchangeable?

I was gifted a five-year-old ST1 in nearly unused condition by a neighbor. I'm very much on the front end of the learning curve and many hundreds of miles from the original dealer and my closest dealer is less than enthusiastic as I'm 2nd owner. With the help of others on this forum, I diagnosed a dead battery (I wrongly assumed the charger telling me it was charged could be trusted). Using a loaner battery I soon found the "fun" side of owning an Ebike.
So now what - I've got a dead gold battery and have questions: Will one of the purple or blue batteries work? What's the deal with the square batteries? Will one of those fit just the same as the 6-sided. Are the chargers the same across the board or will I need a new charger if I switch? Lastly - is it normal for the fan to come on as soon as the charger is turned on? Mine does and then towards the end of the charge it turns off; just seems backward to me.
I understand I can send my battery off for rebuilding but that will likely take weeks and it's June so that doesn't seem like a good route.
Any assistance appreciated.

Your bike is 36v and you need the octagonal batteries... there are many colors (watt hours) available. I sent my gold battery for out for rebuilding and received it back in about 2.5 weeks, with blue battery watthours. If you can’t wait, there’s 3 gold batteries available on eBay right now (age unknown). Buy one, find a charger, and get those brakes fixed. Enjoy and ride.

Fan comes on within 5 seconds of plugging in the charger, and turns off when charging is complete.

Judging batteries by color can be confusing. All batteries have labels and will have a letter designation describing which cells they are. Chargers are easily tested for output.

Your 36V charger will charge 36V batteries. A full charge is 42V.

I'm not up to speed on battery fit on your bike. If it's a custom pack sending away for a rebuild may be the best option. Do it tomorrow and you'll have the pack before June ends.

Golden - thanks x 2
The rear brake is working after a bleed or two but it will certainly leak again. I'm keeping it slow and staying in the neighborhood until it gets replaced; Magura stepped up to the plate and sent a replacement caliper along with pads at no charge. Kudos to them since 4 years & 11 months were gone on a 5-year warranty. A previous mechanic had twisted off the EBT screw using the wrong torques bit (they use 25 to secure the lever and 27 on the EBT screw so I'm sure it happens a lot!) I had to bleed by flipping the brake pull and using the screw on the other side. I still need to back out the bad screw with a heated screwdriver blade once the replacement arrives. I also need the olive for the hydraulic line and will let my local shop do the install of the caliper.
I tested the output on my charger and it matched the listed output on the label so I'm good there.
Thanks for the suggestions Thomas but if I send it tomorrow and there is the least bit of a glitch anywhere in the pipeline or with UPS, it will be another 3 weeks before the battery and bike are reunited.

No doubt! I'm recently retired, not in prime shape but working on it - deferred maintenance is the term I like to use. My wife of nearly 40 years, on the other hand, can knock off 30 or more miles of mountainous terrain on her road bike before lunch. I still bike but it takes a toll and keeping up with my better half has been out of the question. This is not a gift I would have treated myself to. Gratitude!

I'm still sitting on my hands. EBike Market Place was the plan but they are running about 6+ weeks on rebuilds right now.
