Another update, Gazelle have renamed this model, the new name for the Avenue is the EasyFlow. I confirmed this with Gazelle USA customer service and it shows this on their website.

The Gazelle Avenue/EasyFlow looks nearly identical to the Arroyo, which I just bought. Except that it has the Shimano STEPS system instead of the Bosch Performance Line. I'm pretty happy with the Arroyo (which I see Court recommends as well!), but I am curious about how the Shimano system compares.

Hi DJGuy, the Arroyo is a great ebike, I really enjoyed taking it for a test ride last year. Some time later this year I'm going to get to try out a Gazelle EasyFlow for a month and I'm looking forward to testing the Steps system. In preparation I took the time to compare the specs of the Arroyo and EasyFlow models and these appear to be the main differences:
  • Wheels: 26″ EasyFlow vs 28″ Arroyo.
  • Stand over height: 15.5″ EasyFlow vs 16.5″ Arroyo.
  • Weight: 52.5lb EasyFlow vs 58.7lb Arroyo.
  • Motor torque: 50nm (Steps E6000) EasyFlow vs 63nm (Bosch Performance Line) Arroyo.
  • Front light: B&M Upp-T 30 lux EasyFlow vs B&M IQ-TEC 60 lux Arroyo.
From the specs I'd say the EasyFlow is the better choice for shorter riders and for those who don't need the extra torque of the Arroyo's Bosch Performance Line motor. The Shimano Nexus 8-speed internal geared hub shifter they share in common means both models perform well in urban stop and go traffic. It is this advantage of being able to shift down when stationary, 307% wide range, and reported strength of the Nexus-8's 5th gear, that encouraged me to convert the gearing on my ebike from a 7-speed derailleur to the same Nexus 8 IGH as the Arroyo and EasyFlow, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it works with the Shimano Steps system compared with my Bafang BBS01 kit motor.

Thanks Dewey! My GF also got an Arroyo, but she's short, so maybe the EasyFlow would be better. I don't think our store carries it though--New Wheel in San Francisco.

Thanks for the comparison Dewey. After reading your post, I am happy that I bought the Arroyo at a significant discount this spring.

I'm sure Brett and Karen would be happy to order one in if it's a better fit for your girlfriend, they take trade-in's and sell the E8000 motor on new Focus eMTB's so should be able to service the E6000 motor on the EasyFlow.

Will have to ask them sometime.

Are you going to the SuperBike event May 5? I have to miss it myself.
I live in Arlington, VA, but the Superbike event looks very cool, the traveling ebike Expo came to the DC area in 2016 and that was where I first tried out the step through Arroyo, then I tried the men’s diamond frame Arroyo again last year at a DC ebike shop, they were just then taking delivery of the 2018 Arroyos with the more powerful Bosch motor, it’s been one of their best selling models.
