    From ST5 to Supercharger 2

I understand the %20-%25 threshold; %50 is just my personal level below which I get range anxiety. Today, my wife and I went through several errands around town at a leisure pace -- about 5 miles. The R&M charge was 98% before we left, 91% when we got back. I was riding on Tour except a stretch...

    Abus keyed-alike options

Chris at Propel changed my front/rear quick-release mounts with bolts secured by hexlox. This simplifies locking the bike -- now it's sufficient to secure the frame. If you need a long u-lock and don't want the hassle of yet another key, you could consider the new Bluetooth Abus 770A SmartX lock.

    STROMER 2020 CONCEPT BIKE

5 speed hub? That's really disappointing. A mid-hub like a pinion would make a lot more sense.

    From ST5 to Supercharger 2

Super happy to have picked my tricked-out Supercharger 2 today from Propel after they replaced the belt that had been misaligned somehow. Since Chris is a fan of Hexlox, I had all the critical bolts on my bike secured: front/rear axles, seatpost, handlebar, headlight. Now, I don't need to worry...

    From ST5 to Supercharger 2

Turns out that my bike had an odd problem, the belt had somehow shifted so that it was only tracking on half of the rear sprocket. Obviously, that was not good so I brought it back to Propel where they replaced the belt and aligned the wheel. I picked up the bike today and rode it around town...

    From ST5 to Supercharger 2

Interesting. I wasn't aware of this possibility. I hope that the Bafang + Hub ebike vendors use this feature to protect the hub. Personally, throttles kind of scare me. A colleague of mine nearly got into unintended acceleration from his Pedego ebike when we were chatting at a red light. He...

    From ST5 to Supercharger 2

Since I'm not a DIY person, I really didn't want the hassle of maintaining a conventional drivetrain. I wasn't familiar with the difference between a conventional Rohloff vs. the E-Rohloff integration w/ the Bosch system. Now, I'm really glad for that integration. The bike can automatically...

    From ST5 to Supercharger 2

Since I gave up on owning a Stromer ST5, I had considered several options that I could try at a local LBS: - Trek Alliant+ 9.9S at Helen's Cycles - Specialized Vadoo 5 at Cynergy Cycles I noticed that both bikes have the same derailleur as the Stromer ST2: Shimano Deore XT. However, unlike...

    Stromer ST5: Is it reliable?

You're impressive! Have you changed the torque sensor on your ST5? I learned from electricbikezzz that my ST5 had indeed a failed torque sensor, barely a month after I had purchased it. When one of the previous ST5s had a failed light assembly, I saw how tightly packed the electrical wiring is...

Over 50's Trek Allant 9.9s Chronicles

Thanks for the info. I'm glad the BH Nitro City is a wonderful bike for you. My recent test drive of a Trek Allant+ 9.9S w/ the Shimano Deore XT derailleur left me unimpressed. How could a shifting mechanism so violent as to produce a loud "klunk" be reliable in the long term?

Little Surprises - Upgrades and Promotions , Nov 2019

Thanks Ravi! I like the idea of having a disabled throttle as a backup motor torque control feature should there be a problem with the torque sensor. Indeed, a powerful light helps me anticipate road hazards such as bicyclists, stakers and unicyclists whose unpredictable behavior could be very...

Little Surprises - Upgrades and Promotions , Nov 2019

Thank you for being responsive. Good points. I remember seeing some motorcycle turnlights that are have some kind of rubber mount to mitigate some of the problems you mentioned. I would like to know if there are any such options that are reasonable to consider. Ah, this is very useful...

Little Surprises - Upgrades and Promotions , Nov 2019

After reviewing the UC Pro design video, I have a The design of the UC Pro is very close to my ideal commuter bike. I have a few questions about configuring a UC Pro: Bright turn lights with handlebar control. Are there options available for the UC Pro? I use a Lumos helme with bluetooth...

Over 50's Trek Allant 9.9s Chronicles

Since I returned my Stromer ST5 due to unacceptable reliability, I'm looking for an alternative and stopped by my local Trek LBS to test the new Allant+ 9.9S (Medium size, though I a Large would have been a better fit for me). My test ride was limited to circling a few times within a cul-de-sac...

    Stromer ST5: Is it reliable?

Back in July, I wrote about the excitement about getting a 2nd ST5 after the 1st ST5 failed the day I was to take delivery at Electric Bikes ZZZ. Between July and September, I experienced a lot of weird errors, I lost track of them. I was getting annoyed that the bike seemed to have been most of...

    Stromer ST5: Amazing customer service

I had an important birthday recently (June 21) and decided to splurge and indulge myself with an ST5; a major upgrade from my ST2; which was damaged in an accident. Marcus (pictured right) from Electric Bikes ZZZ was amazing; he ordered a bike that shipped from Swizterland just to make sure...

Known Issues & Problems with Stromer Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

What happens when the cellular radio of the OMNI controller fails? My wife and I have ST2 bikes from 2015 (https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/st2-the-ultimate-ebike-machine.2176/). On her bike, the OMNI controller radio failed and now the battery is completely dead. It made sense to...

    ST2, the ultimate ebike machine

She is 5.6" and indeed, the 17" Step-thru model has a standover clearance that, although not as high as that of a comparable 17" men's frame, is still fairly high thus requiring some innovative lady gymnastics to get on & off the bike. With the body float seatpost, the bike is a bit too tall at...

    ST2, the ultimate ebike machine

Since my wife Aida got an ST2 back in February, I couldn't resist using her bike instead of my Grace MX2 Urban, aka, 2015's coolest (see: Grace MX2 - the coolest). Since late August when I got my MX2, I drove over 1000 miles, mostly of daily commute to my company's vanpool & back and for other...
