    Trek Domane +HP 2021

Just updated my Nyon which now includes several new features including a) updated maps (to about 9 months ago), b) a new total screen that shows elevation of your entire ride, and c) a weather screen that gives you hour by hour weather when synced to your phone, d) charge information about your...

    Trek Domane +HP 2021

Seems like it cost me some where around $150 to have it installed. It took them several hours I think. That is pretty expensive, but a) this was the first time the store had done this so I'm sure it was slow for them, b) my dealer is good but overpriced, c) I have ridden about 500 miles with the...

    Custom Riding Modes for Nyon

Quite similar to the setting I posted on May 24th. Not quite as silly as it seems. Well done.

    Custom Riding Modes for Nyon

The power needed to overcome drag = 1/2 * v^3 * Cd. Simplisitically, being in a tuck is helpful, but cutting velocity reduces power requirements to the third power. So, if you're car is low on gas, or your bike battery is low on electricity, the best thing to do is slow down.

    Custom Riding Modes for Nyon

The Kathmandu looks like the perfect bike for long coastal rides. Some Cube bikes use the fazua system, but the Bosch is better suited for your rides. You are an inspiration.

    Custom Riding Modes for Nyon

Admittedly this mode is kinda silly, and could certainly use some massaging, but it actually rides kinda like an automatic gearbox. From a start there's plenty of torque, that drops off at about 14 mph, which is an easy cruising speed, almost without having to change gears. Incidentally, this is...

    Custom Riding Modes for Nyon

For me the standard modes are just fine most of the time. I usually ride about 50% off, 40% on eco, and 10% in tour. I have two custom modes, one sensible, and one kinda silly: Sometimes eco (55% assist) is not quite enough but tour (120% assist) is a bit too much, so Mode 1 is half way in...

    Trek Domane +HP 2021

After waiting 9 months for it to arrive, I recently got the Bosch Nyon computer put on my Domane+. A special thanks to my local bike shop who had to pull my first generation Domane+ completely apart to do the retrofit. (If you own a more recent Domane+ that isn't necessary.) Although I still...

My updated Trek Domane +HP review - now with 4565 miles on it

I have often hoped that the 625 would be backwards compatible with the 500. Although Im not strong enough to ride long enough to drain my 500 battery, I have often thought a 625 would cover almost any ride, without having to resort to carrying a second battery. My old first generation domane+...

    Beware the "Gentle Assist" bike

You are absolutely right. 95% of the time I am a solo rider. I often catch up to other riders, but I give them their space. After a friendly hello, it is easy to tell whether they want your company or not. Most riders don't mind a brief conversation but don't want a life long companion. Wind...

    Beware the "Gentle Assist" bike

Agreed. I like my 500 Wh battery a lot. In a similar vein, years ago, I could get about 250 miles out of my old P85D Tesla. It was barely enough for long trips. From my experience, all those people currently buying Porsche Taycans for the speed, will soon realize that only getting 180 miles in a...

    Beware the "Gentle Assist" bike

On this particular day the group I was riding with were riding from the "M" casino in Henderson, Nevada which is on the outskirts of Las Vegas going South along Las Vegas Boulevard to the next small town, Jean, Nevada. It's about 20 miles each way. The roads are fairly straight and sparsely...

    Class 3 police?

My experience in Austin is that it's far more dangerous on the sidewalks with all the crazy electric scooters flying around. Those things are piled up everywhere. The bike lanes are far safer!!

    Beware the "Gentle Assist" bike

There seems to be quite a lot of interest in "jail breaking" the lighter class 1 bikes to increase their assist to more than 20 mph. That suggests to me that there is a significant number of strong riders that want the lighter bikes, but want assist into the 20s. Maybe bike companies should take...

    Trek Domane+ HP

I own a 2019 Domane+ with its barely acceptable computer. The only reason I don't mind it is because I use my apple watch for most of the stats. Those stats are automatically transferred to my phone, so I don't have to copy them off the cycle computer. I am eagerly awaiting the new Bosch Nyon...

    Beware the "Gentle Assist" bike

By chance I met up with a group of fairly advanced riders today and made an unexpected observation. My bike is a first generation electric bike - a big, fat, portly 37 lb Trek Domane+. I love it. Understandably, when this bike came out a few years ago, serious riders scoffed at a bike...

    Thoughts while riding my Domane+

Those of you who bought a 2019 and 2020 Domane+ are eligible for a free upgrade to increase turbo mode from 75 Nm to 85 Nm, which would be amazing to feel. My older Domane+ doesn't have the same motor, and doesn't qualify. However, I got an email in the last few weeks for a free upgrade. When I...

    New nomenclature for old tech...

Electrically assisted bicycles have the unimaginative name of e-bikes, but that now requires us to rename traditional bikes that were heretofore simply called bicycles. Analog? vs digital Acoustic? As in an acoustic guitar vs an electric guitar. ICE? As in powered by my Internal Combustion...

    The "ecco" equalizer.

I own a 16 lb Cannondale system six. My Gestalt is that riding my 38 lb Domane+ in ecco mode, requires about the same effort (i.e. calories expended, overall effort) for the same ride. My Apple watch estimates calories burned but uses speed as a factor. This is inaccurate as a lot of effort can...

    The e-bike under exercising myth.

Gorgeous pictures of the midwest. Thank you for sharing. California is burning. Texas is drowning. Its calming to see that there are still quiet peaceful places on this planet.
