Disappointed with Bionx

I bought a BionX PL-350 kit in 2011. So I've used it for three seasons. In that time, I've had the following problems:
  • Wobbly Cassette - this problem has never been addressed. I've been told that it's normal to have some wobble, but it has been significant enough to cause the bike to shift poorly and to cause premature wear of the cogs and the chain.
  • System Failure - I had to have a circuit board in the unit replaced in 2013
  • Poor Freewheeling - this year, I've noticed a lot more drag. When turned with some force, I get less than one full revolution from the wheel. I tried to have this fixed, but the dealer told me that this is normal. However, I know that the bike felt more like a bike in previous seasons. Now it feels like a bike riding over jello.
I will try to sell the unit and give up on systems like this. It's been too much money and frustration.

Sorry to hear that... 3 years is too young for all those problems, especially from a highly rated and expensive conversion kit.

The PL series definitely has it's issues.
The S and D, not so much from my experience. Freewheeling feels more natural on a S series even after a lot of km has been logged on the motor.

Sorry to hear about this Thommango, thanks for sharing your experience here... Mine has been somewhat limited but I was excited that the S models are lighter weight. BionX kits are expensive and I know they also had some battery issues in early 2013 (with the 48 volt packs and some circuitry or wiring coming loose inside). I've met with them and tried some of the newer stuff that seems very high quality. Bummer that you're past the two year warranty mark. Hope your next electric bike works out a little bit better for you :(
