Electric Gyro Unicycle

Hi George, great share! There seems to be a "single wheel" movement going on because I also saw this one wheeled skateboard (called Onewheel) on Kickstarter the other day and was equally impressed.

Several years back in 2008, when Segways were still very new, I met a young man in Mountain View at an electric car rally who had made his own system! Pretty sweet, applying computers to the physical world. You can see his home built Segway tranporter thing in the video below around 2:43.

It's amazing that now we're talking about self driving cars, hyperloop trains and electric unicycles. Very cool stuff :)

Hi Court,

Usually these guys are young and full of dreams. There's a nice story behind it. People are raising tiny amounts of money on Kickstarter to build alternative transport systems. A lot of them will die when limited development money runs out.

And then you look at Facebook paying 19 BILLION dollars for WhatsApp. You could seed a lot stuff with that pile of money. I don't know much about WhatsApp, but it's not going to save the world unless the secret formula is in a text message. The real excitement in tech is far away from the social network stuff, to me.

Best,
George

Definitely cool. I wonder where you would use such a thing that you wouldn't just use a bicycle (electric or otherwise?)

That thing looks so familiar, I wonder if this company was offering it through another brand at one point? Several years back Toyota announced the Winglet which is sort of similar. Hands free light electric vehicle :)

Hi Court,

Don't know much about this device. Learning curve is a little steep.

Bought a Phantom X3 over the weekend. Found it at a dealer. Simple bike, almost like something you could build but obviously more integrated. Throttle lets me drive it up the steps. I'll post something on the Prodeco forum when I know the bike. Nothing over there now.

Dealer never did much with the line (eSpokes/St. George). I didn't even know he had it. He had it at a discount and apparently he is letting go of the line. His volume bikes are step-overs and cruisers, but he also has Stromer and Ohm. He's got Neo, and he's still waiting for the 2014 models.

He's young and trying to do it all. David Rasmussen is his name. His personal bikes are a Carbon and an Ohm. Great guy, glad I bought it from him. Like what he is doing, but he's selling mostly to the last generation, like me. He definitely knows the biz, and he's getting to be a Pedego and Neo guy. They are kind of dropping everything else. I talked to him a little about showrooming and the discount guys. I really wouldn't have showroomed the guy. The irony is that he was the discounter for what I wanted, why I went to the shop.

I appreciate your website and reviews.

Best,
George

I'm glad the site and reviews have helped you out George! I think you'll have a great time with the Phantom X3 (one of my favorites from ProdecoTech). It would be wonderful to hear about the bike and your experiences in the forums, thanks for offering. If you have any pictures or videos to add and need help just let me know.

There's always a trade off with price and features. It's great that you were able to get your ebike fully assembled and support a local dealer. Very excited for you :)
