NCM Moscow Dorado Battery failure with less than 20 charge cycles

My battery failed on the road, just past 13 months of ownership (but less than 6 months of recreational, no winter usage, and less than 20 charge cycles on the battery) … I explained to the seller, Leon Cycle, but they were firm on 12-month warranty. Very disappointed.
The battery went on and off when shaken, the issue may have been there all along because I used to lose power sometimes, briefly, and it came back on, I think it may have gotten progressively worse until finally not coming back on for more than a few seconds…hope nobody has a similar experience? and take note if your experiencing this type of issue...maybe you can catch it while under warranty.

That sounds like a loose connection.. or something.

Did you check the fuse?

Thank you, I thought the same, loose connection. I did check both fuses. both good. my problem was that I did not take note earlier. very light recreational usage.

Thank you, I didn't know there was an NCM forum, I'll do that now. I tried the Leon Cycle review site, but I guess it was not accepted.

yes, definitely was battery...the battery would not charge. I've replaced the battery, all good now. I will never buy from Leon Cycle again. I feel they could have made an exception based on the under 20 charge cycles...clearly a manufacturers defect in my mind...probably a week weld? My next bike will come with a better warranty. (PS. the Leon Cycle rep said that they didn't know how I took care of the battery,,, I treated it with kid gloves, stored it perfectly over the winter etc. checking on it periodically, topping up to 3 bars when needed) was very disappointed with them...have to move on though. I hope no more parts fail on this bike. Thank you for your replies. Have a super day.

yes, purchased in Toronto, $699 plus tax, so almost $800... almost half of the cost of the bike, with under 20 charge cycles on the battery...and lost a big part of my summers usage of the bike... Had no choice, had a couple weeks left of summer... that is why I strongly recommend buying a better bike with a better warranty...with a company that stands behind their product. Maybe it was a one off, don't you think the company should have stepped up? At the end of the day, I feel a bit stupid that I didn't identify the issue earlier... the signs were there.

I understand your frustration, but the reality is, the warranty period was already over.

I can't think of single ebike company that would honor warranty after the warranty period. If you ask any reputable ebike company, "would you still honor warranty after the warranty period if I had used the battery only a few times?" I bet every company would say no.

Well that's not the case, I'm sure some companies will way the situation out. its not all black and white. and its not 18 months or 2 years out. but I knew once the rep blamed me for not taking care of the battery that they were not one of those companies. and there was other stuff they said to me that I will not mention...its fine now...My hope is to help others look closely at warranty, especially in Canada when you may get 6 months of real usage in a year, or less like me or the occasional user, (then warranty is over). and I want people to pay close attention to their ride. Any signs should be brought to the companies attention immediately. I did not recognize any real trouble. I thought it was normal...this is my first ebike.

I did have other issues early on too, and the company was quick to remedy. good on them...but I did not get upset at them. things happen and we must all be reasonable. but in my opinion the quality is not quite there for this product. I had 3 issues in quality. 2 were minor...the 3rd, being battery was major.

regarding companies, if you want to grow to be a number one company, you have to listen to customers and make a great product.

frustration was over awhile ago, now just want to share my story. and maybe help another ignorant soul.
