I think i forgot to select a throttle option for my HD, but I can always order it later I suppose. Interestingly enough, the Dolphin pack I ordered isn't available anymore, now the only options for batteries are rear pack. In the forthcoming weeks, I may make a few more purchases for pedals, seat/seat suspension and some winter/rain gear, but over all I believe I'm finished with all the major purchases for this project.

I just wanted to say thanks to this great community for everything we are doing for the ebike movement, and yeah. Thanks.

More to come... you know I can't stop now...with just one ebike.
Nice build! Why did you get two different repair stands, if you don't mind me asking?

They seem to offer one Dolphin pack, right now, but only with a kit purchase. I wonder why they are going with the rear racks and the frame bags? Simpler, I suppose.

Nice set of tools. More tools, more parts, more ebikes...

We should give you a few weeks to get to know it, but the HD is hard to ignore, a force to be reckoned with. I don't know what would compare with your build, honestly.

Oh, my bad. I had two on my wish list. I only ended up with the RAD Cycle stand because it went on sale first and held 5 or 10 lbs more than the other one. Max weight of 65 lbs.

Ordered a thumb throttle today, because I figured, why wait. Also for HD pre-purchasers Luna cycles is selling the Bling Ring 42 which I also ordered. 121.90 for both.

Sounds good, will be interested in seeing them. In the 3 conversions I've done the only issue I've had is the bottom bracket on two of the bikes was slightly deformed preventing me from sliding the drive in. If you have any problems with the BB post it. The rest of the installation was a snap.

Karl at ElectricFatBike has gotten pretty enthusiastic about the HD. He started out pretty negative. It really does seem to be the monster motor that people expected. After a few weeks, I'd like to know what it means to have that much power in a mid-drive fat, especially since the build is still in the $2,000 range. The industry giant will offer a 350 watt mid drive, the Currie Drive, for $1800. Haibike is supposed to have the SDuro line with Yamaha pretty soon, for $2500. These are not fat bikes, of course. Should be interesting. If you want a fat bike, what you have seems like the killer combo.

Karl did point out that this motor has the potential to do some damage, out on trails...

There's a lot to take in. I think my brain will explode.

Thanks George. I've been following Karl's blog and it is interesting to see his attitude change a little towards the HD. I've been planning on doing this build for almost a year now; really I was waiting on some money and the timing. Once word dropped about Bafang making a 1000w model, I knew it was time. I agree, given that my bike and motor come out at $1789.94 with a 13.5ah 52v battery, tax and shipping, that's a monster deal. I honestly think that for all the 135 lb riders out there, a 350 is great, but if weight is a major factor, that kills battery power, don't you want a stronger motor output to battery amps, 1000w is ideal for heavier riders.

DIY definitely has it's advantage over a pre-packaged deal if you are willing to wait and look for deals. I'll have to read that post about the trials, but I don't believe I'll be riding much single track around here. I just like to explore, maybe do some Geocaching and commute to school and work.

Once the battery comes in, and I get everything put together, I'll post picture of the build and finish. Then I'll follow up with my thoughts and commute info every couple weeks.

I ran into some challenges with the non drive side crank arm hitting the chainstay as well as the front chain ring hitting the chainstay. This article was great to remedy those problems
http://electric-fatbike.com/2015/11...xes-for-non-standard-bb-intrusive-chainstays/

I ordered an offset crank arm for the non drive side and that did the trick for one side. Then I also bought washers to make the mounting plate even https://electricfatbike.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/imag2987-e1447264147846.jpg

Finally I bought longer bolts and lock washers which served as spacers for the chain ring.

My drive unit is finally installed. I've converted my tires to tubeless, upgraded my chain, installed my pannier rack. No I'm waiting on the battery which ships Monday with my C965 display. Now they are offering a slim battery back and I don't know which one to get. Any suggestions? @Kaldeem

Fat bikes consume a lot of watts because of weight and friction of those fatties.
Go with 52V, 13.5Ah pack.

Started to tear down the BB on my Gravity, when one of the crank arms got stripped. I'm expecting the battery to arrive soon, but looks like I'll have to take it to the LBS to have the bb removed. :(

@one4torque can you link the sm block lighting rods? I haven't heard of them. I'm also curious what I can do with a full steel frame, single speed fat bike I got for my Bday. Ideas welcome!!
