Trikes

Do you cover trikes in this forum? I would be interested to see an in depth review on the HP Velotechnik FS 26 Scorpion S-Pedelec.

I've ridden this trike at Eurobike and it's quite awesome. We're a HP dealer and we've had the non-electric version in the shop, but not the electric one. Maybe one day, but it's tough to ride these sorts of things in NY. I'll be happy to answer any questions about it if you'd like. It actually uses the same motor as your Specialized Turbo S.

Thanks. I have read some favorable reviews on the non-motorised version but I have found little on the motorised one. Just the fact that it comes with the Go SwissDrive 500W motor (Turbo has a 250W GoSwiss motor) got me interested. It also has a new 3,2" TFT control with Bluetooth 4.0 supporting smartphone connection and comes with a 5V / 1A USB port. There is also possibility to attach a second battery which would increase the assissted pedal range to almost 90 miles (1060 Wh) with 60% assist on flat ground, no wind, 140 lbs rider. That is according to HPVelotechnik (email). But with this kind of setup the weight is nearing almost 80 lbs which makes me wonder how the trike rides weighing almost double the nonmotorised weight. For sure it will be a hard ride uphill if the batteries are empty. It's also pretty pricey; the s-pedelec version (max assist 28 mph) with two batteries is around $10000 (with some options included, though) nearing the 100 lbs 2100 Wh Outrider 422 price, of which, by the way, the company will probably soon release a suspended version.
