Upgrade 36v to 48v

Hello,

My sister recently bought an older Comfort Cruiser, I think it might be the first generation. The throttle has a green, yellow and red LED for battery charge level. The battery is silver and slides in on top of the pannier rack.

It was shutting off under high load, going up hills, or full throttle on the opens. The battery at the charge port reads 40v, and at the discharge port reads 40 volts before the open throttle test, but 30v afterwards. I think the BMS is tripping because of a bad cell.

Knowing that we need to buy a new battery, I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade the battery and controller to 48v, but keep the stock motor. Will it handle 48v? Has anyone else tried this with success?

Thanks!
